Naughty Jokes, Nice Turnout at Christmas Show
The Barristers’ Club recently held its annual Christmas show at the Paxton Ballroom.
The evening’s sketch comedy was like a lawyers-only special of “Omaha Live!” – a bit awkward, at times humorous and a mix of pre-recorded and live sketches.
Barristers’ Club President Jeff Leuschen began with a long self-deprecating monolog introducing himself to the audience of attorneys, judges and legal experts.
“After passing the bar, I found myself starting a solo practice on the Island of Misfit Toys – that is the Keeline Building,” he said.
Tickets for the Dec. 12 event poked fun at the ongoing presidential impeachment proceedings. The evening also featured repeated presentations of the Barries Awards, a spoof of Dunder Mifflin’s Dundies from the esteemed “documentary” series “The Office.”
Leuschen took the role of Santa in a sketch, listening to the wishes of figures like Douglas County Attorney Don Kleine and recently retired Douglas County Juvenile Court Judge Elizabeth Crnkovich.
Many of the jokes drew loud laughs from the audience, and heckling was actively encouraged from the audience.
Completely unrelated to that, a premium bar kept up beverage service in the back of the ballroom following cocktails, socializing and dinner before the show.
The Daily Record is the sponsor of the Barristers’ Club. The annual social event was limited to members of the local legal community.
