Nancy Pelosi Plans Visit to Omaha for State Party Fundraiser
The Nebraska Democratic Party is bringing House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to Omaha to serve as the keynote speaker for its annual Morrison Exon Fundraiser.
The event will celebrate the centennial of women’s suffrage, according to a news release.
“We are honored to host Speaker Pelosi in Omaha,” said NDP Chair Jane Kleeb. “Speaker Pelosi’s bold leadership and tenacity are unparalleled and vital in this period of chaos and scandal being caused by the Republicans and the Trump administration.”
Kleeb said the goal of the Nebraska Democratic Party is to “deliver that blue dot” by giving a Democratic candidate one of five electoral votes in the 2020 election and by “flipping both Congressional seats red-to-blue” – presumably excluding Nebraska’s 3rd District, where Republicans have an overwhelming advantage.
At the dinner, which is planned for Oct. 26 in Omaha, the Democratic Party will also present its annual volunteer, party leader and elected official awards, including three new awards named after Sen. Ben Nelson and the late Anne Boyle and Frank LaMere.
“We are in a fight for the soul of our country,” Pelosi said. “I tell women all across the country to know their power. As the Nebraska Democrats celebrate the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment, there is no better time to show our power. There is no substitute for hard work and the Nebraska Democrats are ready with a plan, leaders and candidates to win.”
In the release, Pelosi called for the Democratic replacement of Republican Reps. Don Bacon, Jeff Fortenberry and Adrian Smith, as well as Sen. Ben Sasse.
Pelosi is in her 17th term as a congresswoman and her second tenure leading the House.
She represents California’s 12th Congressional District, which falls within the city of San Francisco.
