More Nebraska Prison Staffers, Inmates Test Positive for Coronavirus
The state’s prison system continues to see more staff members infected with the coronavirus, with eight more staffers testing positive in recent days.
Of the new cases, six are employed at the Nebraska State Penitentiary, one is employed at the Diagnostic and Evaluation Center and one is employed at the Nebraska Correctional Center for Women in York, the agency said in news releases. All are self-isolating at home, the agency said.
The latest cases bring to 170 the number of correctional department employees who have been diagnosed with COVID-19. So far, 126 staffers have recovered.
As of Oct. 9, 242 inmates have tested positive for the coronavirus, with 50 active cases at the Nebraska State Penitentiary, where one inmate has already died from COVID-19, according to a weekly tracker available at corrections.nebraska.gov/ndcs-covid-19-data.
