Governor Helps Open North Omaha DMV
Nebraska Gov. Pete Ricketts helped cut the ribbon of a new Nebraska Department of Motor Vehicles office in North Omaha.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Tuesday, according to a Governor’s Office news release.
“Thanks to our new location, customers are saving an average of over 19 minutes per visit,” Ricketts said. “The new North Omaha Express Office means Omaha metro residents will have a 67% shorter wait time at the DMV. This new office is another great example of how we are improving government services to provide Nebraskans with an even more effective and efficient customer experience.”
The service center at 4606 N. 56th St., Suite 100, opened in June and replaced a previous location at 7414 N. 30th St. The new office has served more than 6,000 customers since opening.
Customers can complete their entire transaction at one office, instead of paying for their license separately through the Douglas County Treasurer’s Office.
The express office in North Omaha does not administer written or drive tests. Those can be done at DMV offices at 2910 N. 108th St. and 5730 N. 144th St.
“Seeking new ways to continually improve the experience of our customers is ingrained in the culture of the DMV,” Nebraska DMV Director Rhonda Lahm said. “We are excited to continue the rollout of improvements in the Omaha metro area. I encourage customers to take advantage of the shorter wait times at our new offices and to make use of online services at dmv.nebraska.gov to ensure maximum convenience.”
The DMV plans to open a new West Omaha location in 2020.
In other news, officials with the Douglas County Treasurer’s Office are working with the state DMV to implement a new vehicle titling and registration system, named VicToRy, according to a news release from the county office.
“The system will replace an inefficient, decades-old system and allow us to provide a better customer experience long term,” the Douglas County Treasurer’s Office said in the release.
While training is underway, the office asks customers to consider other payment options to avoid the potential for delays. Those options include mail-in vehicle registration renewals and property tax payments, which can also be made online. Most vehicle renewals can be made by calling 402-444-7103. Property tax payments can also be made through the new myDouglasCounty app.
In-person visits to the County Treasurer’s Office are best made in the early morning hours.
