FBI Awards Community Leadership Award to Sioux City Child Advocacy Center
Omaha’s FBI Field Office announced that the MercyOne Siouxland Child Advocacy Center would receive the Director’s Community Leadership Award.
The comprehensive program was honored for demonstrating outstanding contributions to their community through service.
Award recipients are nominated by each of the FBI’s 56 field offices for going “above and beyond the call of duty.”
The MercyOne Child Advocacy Center is dedicated to preventing and serving victims of child abuse. The center offers forensic interviews, medical evaluation and treatment, and trauma-focused therapeutic services for child victims, as well as community-wide trainings for adults and advocates.
Prevention efforts include empowering adults to prevent child sexual abuse through a program called “Stewards of Children,” as well as teaching abuse prevention to third grade classes in the area at an age-appropriate level.
Amy Scarmon, the center’s manager, will be presented with the award by FBI Director Christopher Wray at a May ceremony.
