DCHD Offers Drive-Thru Clinic for Shots
To further the fight against COVID-19, the Douglas County Health Department is offering a drive-thru vaccination clinic.
The vaccination site is Lot D on the north end of the CHI Health Center Arena, and it will serve people for any dose in the vaccination series.
The dates of the clinics are:
• Oct. 20 and Oct. 27, Wednesdays, from 1 to 6 p.m.
• Oct. 23 and Oct. 30, Saturdays, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
“We hope this will make it easier for people to get their third dose, booster shots, or to get started,” Douglas County Health Director, Dr. Lindsay Huse said. “We are planning to announce an appointment option in the coming days, but drive-ins will be welcome.”
The department also has a vaccine clinic on Fridays at DCHD, 1111 S. 41st St., 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Find a list of other vaccination sites at douglascountyhealth.com. Commercial providers include Baker’s, Hy-Vee, Kohll’s, Walmart and Walgreens.
DCHD also offers in-home vaccinations. Call 402-444-3400 to be placed on the home visit list. It may take a week or so to be called back, but it usually is within three days. Visits will be performed by medical professionals, following public health guidelines, with appointments based on the geography, not necessarily on a first-come-first-served basis.
Douglas County’s overall vaccination rate is about 57%. Three-fourths of adult residents have had at least their first vaccination shot.
Additionally, with flu season at hand, the DCHD stressed the importance of handwashing. The department reminds everyone to:
• Wet your hands with clean, running water and apply soap.
• Rub your hands together with soap for 20 seconds (no cheating) which is about the time it takes so sing your ABCs without rushing and be sure to get the backs of your hands and under your nails.
• Rinse your hands with clean, running water, and then dry them with a clean towel or air dry.
“As simple as it sounds, this really does make a difference,” Huse said. “And it’s good for people at any age, especially young children.”
