Creighton Now Considered a National University in Report
Creighton University recently made its inaugural appearance in the prestigious National Universities category in the most recent U.S. New & World Report’s 2020 “Best Colleges” rankings.
Creighton came in No. 104 of the 381 institutions classified as National Universities, which offer full range of undergraduate majors, plus master’s and doctoral programs while also producing ground-breaking research.
“Ranking in the top third of national colleges and universities in our inaugural year in the category marks a significant milestone in the history of Creighton University, and is a testament to our high-caliber students, alumni, faculty, staff, and programs,” said Creighton President Daniel S. Hendrickson. “This recognizes our stature as a national university of prominence, dedicated to excellence in education, research, and scholarship.”
For 16 years in a row, Creighton had been recognized as No. 1 in the Midwest category. Earlier this year, Creighton was elevated in the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education from the Master’s Colleges and Universities category to the newly created Doctoral/Professional Universities category. U.S. News uses the Carnegie classifications to group institutions into categories, which resulted in Creighton being reclassified to the National Universities category in its rankings.
Creighton also was recently recognized in the Wall Street Journal/Times Higher Education 2020 U.S. College Ranking. While the U.S. News rankings focus more on student metrics, this measurement focuses more intentionally on academics and research. Creighton finished 127th out of 801 institutions.
