City Sprouts Honors MCC With Community Cultivator Award
City Spouts named Metropolitan Community College as its 2019 Community Cultivator.
The annual award recognizes individuals or organizations that have been supportive of the mission of City Sprouts. MCC partners with the nonprofit in many areas, including helping students with the City Sprouts internship program find a pathway to an associate degree.
“Our summer urban farming internship with MCC has been especially beneficial,” said Roxanne Williams Draper, City Sprouts executive director. “Through the internship program, students are able to collaborate with expert chefs from MCC’s culinary program, helping them gain knowledge in many areas of horticulture, culinary arts and workforce development.”
MCC received the award Aug. 18 during City Sprouts’ annual Grow with Us Gala, held at the MCC Institute for the Culinary Arts.
City Sprouts works to increase the amount of fresh local food and offers education on healthy life style choices while building the local community by providing employment for underserved youth.
