Application Window Closing for Omaha City Attorney Job
The deadline to apply to be the City of Omaha’s next city attorney arrives this Friday.
The position is open following the retirement of Paul Kratz, who served for nearly 23 years.
Applicants must have a Juris Doctor degree and 10 years of experience as an attorney, including experience in legal research and trial work. Applicants must be admitted to the Nebraska Bar Association.
The city attorney is responsible for planning, supervising, and participating in all legal services provided to the mayor, Omaha City Council, department heads, and administrative and quasi-judicial bodies; supervising the preparation and presentation of all criminal and civil cases in court; rendering opinions and advising elective and appointive officials and boards on legal matters; and the investigation and disposition of claims for and against the city.
Candidates must also have personnel management experience. The city attorney oversees a staff of more than 30, including 24 attorneys in the civil and prosecution divisions.
The city attorney is a civil service position, appointed by Mayor Jean Stothert. The application deadline is Jan. 29.
“This is a critically important position that impacts the day-to-day operations of the City,” said Mayor Jean Stothert. “We anticipate a competitive application process and will select the candidate who will best represent the City and our taxpayers.”
The posted salary range is $178,068.80 with step increases to $208,811.20 annually.
