Annual Softball Game a Home Run for Barristers’ Club
The Omaha Barristers’ Club played its annual softball game with county attorneys and public defenders from Douglas County.
After rain earlier in the week, the game was moved to the field at Memorial Park. It was scheduled at Dill Softball Complex.
The tradition saw a strong turnout. The teams played two games, with the 13-7 and 10-4 results both favoring the Barristers team.
The “Golden 40” traveling trophy was handed to Barristers President Jeff Leuschen by Douglas County Attorney Don Kleine.
“I’ve got to hand it to the team,” Leuschen said. “We came in without much of a plan but with Jason Troia on the mound, Joe Bradley at first, John Ashford at second, Marcus Sladek at short and Rob Black on third, we had a pretty solid infield. Dave Sommers was behind the plate and myself, Tom Gross and Augie Osuala were chasing down balls in the outfield. With hot bats and some unorthodox base running, we ended up leaving with the W.
“That makes it a 1-0 record against the County Attorneys on the field for me, which is certainly better than my record against them in court.”
