Annual CASA Juvenile Court CLE is Nov. 1
The 12th annual Complex Issues in Juvenile Court Practice continuing legal education seminar is coming up next week.
Co-sponsored by The Guardian ad Litem Project Inc. and CASA for Douglas County, the learning opportunity will take place Friday, Nov. 1, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the College of Saint Mary’s Warde Conference Center, 7000 Mercy Road in Omaha.
The seminar addresses more advanced areas of juvenile court practice, according to CASA.
Dannette Smith, CEO of the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services, will present on the department’s new “Family First” initiative.
Sue Miller-Harsin and Brittany Thomas-Pleskac will discuss effectiveness of equine therapy.
A panel of experienced juvenile court litigators will discuss issues impacting the state’s duty of “reasonable efforts.”
The seminar will also include a presentation illustrating the ethical duties of guardians ad litem.
Advanced registration by Friday is $85. After Friday, the cost will be $95. A buffet lunch will be provided. Seminar attendees may obtain the 2019-20 edition of “Juvenile Court Law & Practice” by Christine P. Constantakos with a 20% discount for a limited time.
Nebraska and Iowa have approved 6.75 hours of CLE credit, including 1.25 hours of professional responsibility/ethics credit.
Credit may also be requested from the Administrative Office of the Nebraska Supreme Court to meet the 3-hour annual guardian ad litem training requirement.
