Published by josie@omahadail... on Mon, 01/08/2024 - 5:00am

WASHINGTON — Congress got next to nothing done during the past year and could accomplish even less in 2024 as attention shifts to the November elections.

House Republican and Senate Democratic leaders reached agreement on bills and resolutions they sent to the president’s desk just 34 times during the first year of the 118th Congress — making that session the least productive in decades.

The state agency was set to replace those emergency regulations from October with lasting ones as early as this week. However, HHS said it needed more time and extended the temporary regulations through the end of March.

Published by josie@omahadail... on Fri, 12/29/2023 - 5:00am

LINCOLN — Former Nebraska U.S. Rep. Jeff Fortenberry is no longer a convicted felon. But he could face a second trial closer to home or nearer the seat of federal governance.

The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals reversed Fortenberry’s conviction Tuesday for lying to or misleading FBI agents investigating foreign funds being funneled into congressional campaigns, including Fortenberry’s. Federal law prohibits raising or using foreign funds in congressional races to limit outside influence.
