Polar bears in Canada's Western Hudson Bay — on the southern edge of the Arctic — are continuing to die in high numbers, a new government survey of the land carnivore has found. Females and bear cubs are having an especially hard time.

Higher Fuel Costs Likely To Drive Up Nebraska Heating Bills Again This Winter

LINCOLN — Local utilities, social service agencies and fuel companies have spent months urging Nebraskans to take some simple steps to slice the edge off winter heating bills.

Experts project that this winter’s bills could outpace last year’s tallies by 15% to 50%, as shifting demand, global instability and inflation increase the costs of natural gas, propane and electricity.

Prosser is one of many towns grappling with the costs of trying to remove nitrate from their water supply – roughly 10 percent of Nebraska communities have tested nitrate levels higher than the federal standard at least once since 2010. Marty Stange was grasping for solutions to keep 25,000 residents safe – and a city’s budget from breaking.

For years, electric vehicles posed something of a chicken-and-egg problem.

Mass adoption, seen as critical to cutting the largest single source of U.S. carbon emissions, couldn’t happen until the infrastructure to allow drivers to recharge wherever they were heading was in place. And those charging stations weren’t coming until more drivers switched to plug-in electric vehicles.
