While some political leaders in Nebraska have waffled about handling COVID-19, our judges have made no bones about being tough and clear that this pandemic is no joke and citizens having business in the courts will abide by rules to keep them safe.

Election season – and especially broadcasts on election night – depends upon polling, punditry, prognostication, politicking and pontification.
Once polls close, the race will begin to determine who won the White House, who is in control of Capitol Hill and what that may mean – especially if Democrats win – for the metonym-of-your-choice for the Supreme Court.

The United States Supreme Court will start its 2020 term this morning on the phone, absent a giant of the law, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, mopping up cases postponed from last March and April and employing the technology adopted when arguments restarted in May.

On Sept. 18, America lost one of its foremost jurists and sharpest legal minds, Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
Justice Ginsburg’s life is proof of the American Dream. The daughter of Jewish immigrants from Poland and Ukraine, she excelled as a student and attended Cornell University, where she studied government and met her future husband, Martin Ginsburg.

The foundation of the United States since that unanimous declaration to the world on July 4, 1776, has been independence.
Independence and its accompanying freedom is infused throughout our system of government and our society. The courts, for one, are supposed to serve as an independent check on power. So, too, is the press.

Facing a fierce public outcry, the U.S. Postal Service is “suspending” its sudden cost-cutting moves – tossing out high-speed sorting machines, uprooting collection boxes, reducing Post Office hours and eliminating carrier overtime – that have slowed mail delivery and threatened the on-time delivery of mail-in ballots for the presidential election.
