Just over a year ago, partners-to-be cut down their wedding guest lists and popular venues cancelled events. From caterers and photographers to DJs and florists, wedding industry workers have faced several obstacles over the past year. Many have adjusted to the “new normal”, but the question if weddings will ever be the same as they were prior to the pandemic is still looming.

As we begin to turn the corner on the pandemic, I’m reminded of how far our small businesses have come in the past year. Omaha’s small business community is the backbone of our economy, and while it seems there’s a light at the end of this long COVID-19 tunnel, local businesses need continued support if they are going to make it through to the other side. And with March concluding Women’s History Month, there’s no better time to lift-up female entrepreneurs in Nebraska and beyond.

The next few days will show whether President Joe Biden has dropped the ball on the critical issue of appointing judges.
As a matter of fact, by the time you read this, he may have redeemed himself with antsy Democrats who have been waiting since January for the first nominations.

While you have been distracted by the passage of the COVID-19 relief bill, the reopening of the economy in many states, the nip by President Joe Biden’s dog and “The Interview” by Oprah of Meghan and Harry, the Supreme Court has been hard at work dealing with a very interesting docket.

There are more exceptions to the Fourth Amendment’s warrant requirement than you can count on the fingers of both hands. There are consent searches and open fields searches, there are automobile searches and plain view ones, and there are hot pursuit searches.
You often think of a hot pursuit when a cop chases a gun-toting robber from a bank and follows him directly into his hideout. That’s an easy one.

The Biden administration is acutely aware of the importance of filling any federal judicial vacancy promptly if it ever wants to catch up to the 226 seats filled in the four years of the Trump presidency.
Trump’s sharp focus on getting judgeships filled resulted, among other things, in seating three Supreme Court justices and appointing every circuit court vacancy.

Just four years ago, Nebraska prison officials projected they were on track to significantly reduce Nebraska’s crisis level of prison overcrowding by the start of the new decade. Instead, we enter 2021 with the situation largely unchanged and Gov. Pete Ricketts asking taxpayers to reward that failure with a $230 million commitment for a new prison.
