But a rainbow, laden with golden opportunity, is shining through this crisis. Nebraska is on the brink of building high-speed internet connections for millions of rural Nebraskans.

The Nebraska Lawyers Foundation supports several programs that expand access to the justice system and work to strengthen the Nebraska legal profession.
One program is the Volunteer Lawyers Project (VLP). By connecting Nebraska lawyers with pro bono opportunities, VLP serves more than 7,000 low-income Nebraskans each year.

Recent events here in Nebraska and across the nation have rightly focused attention on persons of color and other historically disadvantaged persons seeking equal access to justice. No institution in this state plays a more pivotal role in providing equal access to justice than Nebraska’s courts.

It is important that we as Nebraskans take a moment to recognize that our collective need for access to the courts has continued despite the coronavirus and the closing of so many businesses and activities.

There is a lot we don’t know about the novel coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2, and the resultant disease, COVID-19. What we do know is that we are pulling our resources together to understand, fight and ultimately defeat it. Physics is at the forefront of this fight.
