Why Corporate Inclusion Policies Are Moral Decisions, Not Just Business Ones

Published by maggie@omahadai... on Tue, 06/16/2026 - 12:00am

Executives are facing pressure from boards, employees, regulators and consumers to either defend or abandon diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives. Many are retreating from their DEI commitments. But in the rush to respond to political headwinds, a more fundamental question is going unasked: Is inclusion a moral imperative?

As marketing scholars who study consumer ethics and corporate responsibility, we have spent years examining how companies treat the people they serve and what that treatment says about their values.

SpaceX Raised $75B In Record IPO – Here’s Why Insiders Like Elon Musk Are Much Likelier Than Public Stock Buyers To Get Rocket‑Powered Returns These Days

Published by maggie@omahadai... on Tue, 06/16/2026 - 12:00am

Elon Musk’s SpaceX is becoming a publicly traded company after selling 555.6 million shares in what was the biggest initial public offering in history. But my new research suggests that investors who bought those shares are unlikely to see the explosive growth that past IPOs had.

The rocket, satellite and artificial intelligence company said it raised US$75 billion on June 11, 2026, in the offering, giving it a valuation of $1.77 trillion.

Year-Round Ethanol Blend Bill Passed By US House Faces Uncertain Senate Path

Published by maggie@omahadai... on Tue, 06/09/2026 - 12:00am
Fuel options at a Sioux Falls, South Dakota, gas station on Aug. 22, 2025. The nationwide average price of a gallon of gas was $4.55 May 22, 2026, up from $3.20 a year ago. The steep increase has turned some lawmakers’ attention to alternative fuels like ethanol.
(John Hult / South Dakota Searchlight)

Proponents of ethanol, including lawmakers from corn-growing states, say year-round sales of a gasoline blend containing 15% of the biofuel would give consumers a less expensive alternative to fill their gas tanks, boost energy supplies and benefit agricultural interests.

So why hasn’t Congress allowed it?

The US Job Market Is Strong But Many Americans Are Still Frustrated By Prospects And Rising Prices

Published by maggie@omahadai... on Tue, 06/09/2026 - 12:00am

WASHINGTON (AP) — The American job market continues to show surprising strength — good news for President Donald Trump who has taken a beating in the polls over the surging gasoline prices that followed U.S. and Israeli attacks on Iran.

Employers added 172,000 jobs in May – roughly double what forecasters had expected – and the unemployment rate remained at a low 4.3%, the Labor Department reported Friday.

Job growth was down slightly last month from a revised 179,000 in April.

Longtime CBS Correspondent Scott Pelley Lived Many Workers' Fantasy: Telling Your Boss Off

Published by maggie@omahadai... on Tue, 06/09/2026 - 12:00am

NEW YORK (AP) — As if Scott Pelley’s years in a glamorous, globetrotting, seven-figure dream job weren’t enough, he’s pulled off one more thing to stir your envy: a cutting takedown of his boss that went loudly public.

The “60 Minutes” correspondent’s searing rebuke of CBS management this week, in which he questioned his bosses’ credentials and motives, may have ended in his firing, but amounted to the sort of mouthing-off that workplace peons typically only fantasize about.

Feds Pause Union Pacific-Norfolk Southern Merger

Published by maggie@omahadai... on Tue, 06/02/2026 - 12:00am

OMAHA — The federal government on Thursday paused a proposed merger of two railroad behemoths, Nebraska staple Union Pacific and Georgia-based Norfolk Southern.

The U.S. Surface Transportation Board, an independent federal agency which regulates ground transportation and freight, requested more information about the future company.

The feds asked both companies for more details by July 27 about April’s amended application for the merger. The Surface Transportation Board must sign off on railroad combinations.

It’s Not Just High Gas Prices – Inflation Is Now Spreading Through The US Economy

Published by maggie@omahadai... on Tue, 06/02/2026 - 12:00am

Americans don’t need a press release to know that inflation is rising. Gasoline is above $4 per gallon amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East and closure of the Strait of Hormuz, and the release of key price data on May 28, 2026, underscores why policymakers are worried these pressures could spread into the broader economy.

Major League Baseball owners made their long-expected salary cap proposal to the players’ association on Thursday, a system the union has vowed never to accept, setting the sides on course for a confrontation that threatens the 2027 season and perhaps beyond.

Baseball owners hadn’t proposed a firm cap since 1994. Their effort prompted a 7 1/2-month strike that forced the cancellation of the World Series for the first time in 90 years.

More Megachurches Want To Be Your Alma Mater

Published by maggie@omahadai... on Tue, 06/02/2026 - 12:00am

In the heart of the Bible Belt, a small Methodist college graduated its final class in May 2024, shutting its doors after 168 years.

Birmingham-Southern College in Birmingham, Alabama, was a Christian private liberal arts school that counted among its graduates members of Congress, famous musicians, Pulitzer Prize winners and the former executive editor of The New York Times. Yet it had been unable to endure years of financial losses.
