BFF Omaha, or Benson First Friday, was founded in 2012 by artists themselves with the intention of building their community by getting Omaha citizens to engage the arts. They became a nonprofit in 2015 and have continued to grow as they hit 12 years in operation.

Heritage Omaha is a nonprofit that helps create large civic projects for the betterment of the city. In the words of their President, Rachel Jacobson, Heritage Omaha “specializes in building philanthropic projects”, including fundraisers, institutional development, and helping their projects get themselves up and running. Heritage strives to do the best that they can to improve communities across the Omaha Metro.

Ask Dan Hoppen about his favorite restaurant, and he may tell you about his most-recent visit to the newest gyro, Mexican, Italian or pizza joint. But, ask him for a must go-to eatery and he’ll rattle off a handful of impressive restaurants.

In 2023, more and more states are challenging the books that students are allowed to read, for issues ranging from violence, sexual material, and LGBTQ+ issues. In the interest of exploring what is leading parents and school districts to attack these books, we have decided to start reviewing these texts to see what they are actually attacking.

SCOTT V. HAHN recently joined the experienced team of family law experts at Slowiaczek Albers & Whelan, PC LLO in November 2023. He brings more than 15 years of litigation experience in family law cases to the firm. Such cases in which Scott has represented clients include divorce, paternity and custody, modifications, protection orders, and collaborative divorce matters. Scott is an Omaha native and graduated from Creighton University and the Creighton University School of Law.

As the latest part of the Omaha table Talk series, College of Saint Mary once again hosted the panel, this time focusing on The History of Trans People. This four-person panel consisted of Jaye Stentz (he/him) Adjunct Professor at Nebraska Wesleyan; Rowena Cage (she/they), author and owner of the store Queerarchy; Amy Schindler (she/her), Director of Archives and Special Collections for UNO; and Sarah Phelps (she/her), Director of Operations and Programs with OutNebraska.

One Omaha concluded its From the Ground Up series on Nov. 14 at the Benson Theatre. One Omaha is a nonprofit providing education and training to empower communities and create resident-led engagement in neighborhood development. Its goal is to be the source for creating thriving neighborhoods in Omaha.

Dr. Jennifer Craft Morgan of the Georgia State University Gerontology Institute gave a talk at UNO on Direct Care Worker Retention in the health care field with a trauma-informed approach. Dr. Morgan covered multiple different topics that will help improve practices and increase support for those working in the direct care industry.
