After fears of a “she-cession” during the pandemic, women have returned to the workforce at unprecedented rates.
Much of the gain reflects a boom in jobs traditionally held by women, including nursing and teaching. Many good-paying jobs in fields such as construction and tech management are still dominated by men, a continuing challenge for states trying to even the playing field for women workers.

UPS and its workers, represented by the Teamsters, reached a tentative deal last Tuesday to prevent an Aug. 1 strike of 340,000 union members at the package carrier. Christopher Nolan’s highly-anticipated movie “Oppenheimer,” set for release July 21, 2023, depicts J. Robert Oppenheimer and his role in the development of the atomic bomb. But while the Manhattan Project wouldn’t have been possible without the work of many accomplished female scientists, the only women seen in the movie’s trailer are either hanging laundry, crying or cheering the men on.

OMAHA — After five consecutive months of showing growth, Nebraska’s business conditions index has taken a turn for the worse, according to Creighton University’s Mid-America Business Conditions Index.
Meanwhile, the June index for the broader nine-state area that includes Nebraska shows the regional economy as growing, albeit at a slower pace.
